Google is truly the most popular and powerful search engine on the internet today. People from each and every country access Google every day to search for something. Apart from the traditional web based text results the search giant is also one of the largest providers of image results. Whenever we want some relevant images we simply type the keywords to get a list of the most relevant results. If you have been using Google images for a long time then I am pleased to inform you that there are lots of functions and features that lets you pick and choose exactly the kind of images you are looking for. Apart from typing your keyword, the search giant also features a whole set of parameters called Google Advanced Image Search. These parameters are particularly useful for laser targeting a specific type of picture set and getting what we want. In this post I am going to cover a brief tutorial of the advanced image search parameters and make you an expert in minutes.

Where is the Google Advanced Image Search Located?

This is probably the first question that comes to your mind. Well, the answer was simple a week ago but as you have noticed Google made some changes to their design and now they are displayed on the top (below the search bar) instead of the traditional parameters on the left side of the search results. Follow the steps to access the advanced options:

Step 1: Search for a Keyword in Google

Step 2: Select Images (unless you are already searching for image)

Step 3: On the top bar (below search box) select Search Tools

Step 4: You will see a list of advanced parameters that you can customize to refine your results

Advanced Search Options

Time

The first option lets you select a given time for the results. By default you will have any time selected. When you click on the dropdown you can choose options like past 24 hours or past week. These options are helpful when you require recent images. However, there is another option that lets you choose a specific timeframe and display all images associated with it.

Result Type

Next comes the result type that lets you choose between the default value of all results or by subject. When you select By Subject, the images will be categorized into specific groups. For example if you are searching for tortoise and you wish to display them by subject then you will see the pictures under categories like small tortoise, large tortoise etc.

Size

By default you will have any size selected. You can change this option between icon, large, medium and small. It’s sad that the redesigned Google search does not allow you to enter the exact pixels anymore.

Type

You can assign the exact type of image you are looking for that particular keyword. By default “Any Type” will be selected but there are other options like Face, Clipart, Sketch etc. and they work great with no matter what you search. For Example: If you are looking for a outline drawing of a tortoise then change the type mode to Line Drawing. The feature is a gift for graphic designers and illustrators.

Show Sizes

The last option allows you to choose whether or not the images should display their own resolution. If you turn on display resolution then the dimensions appear in a black bounding box on the lower left side of every image.

Clear

This feature only comes when you modify the advanced image settings. It basically clears all the custom changes that you applied and displays the default results.

The Drag and Drop System

Note: There is also another trick that allows you to drag and drop pictures into the Google search bar. When you do this you will get a result that shows images which are similar to the one you selected.

Conclusion

I hope that after reading this article you will truly see Google Picture search from a different perspective. Learn to use these options every time you want to find something. For the first few days it might take up a little bit of your time but with practice you can really master the art of getting that single laser targeted image with ease.
