Sometimes the time it takes to reach a workout center near your home can be so much that it affects the length and quality of the sessions that you get in each week. At the same time, it can get quite expensive renewing your subscription every month for facilities you can just buy and use at home. Hence why many people have invested in building their own mini home gym at a budget.

There is a big misconception that to have a home gym, you need to invest a lot of money, and that you need plenty of space. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can still have a decent gym within your limited budget and room space.



1. Choose the ideal space in your house

If you have a family, find the safest place for your home gym. Find a space that is not within the reach of young children. Even if you don’t have an entire room for the gym, make use of the available space. It’s not about the amount of space available but how you make use of the available space.

2. Budget

You don’t have to waste all your money on equipment that you don’t really need. Only buy what is absolutely necessary. There are also many places that sell used fitness equipment. These include auction sites and classified ads. Start with the basics and upgrade as you move along.

3. Create a good atmosphere for working out

You know the things that motivate you the most. It’s always good to visualize the end result and have pictures and other paraphernalia that motivates you to reach your goals. Create an environment that triggers your mind to have more desire for hard work.

4. Arrange your equipment

Once you bring in all your equipment, it’s time to arrange it in such a way that it does not affect other aspects of your daily home activities. Find a way to hide your equipment after workouts so that when visitors come in, they don’t have to be confronted by all the equipment. Weight benches usually fold up, and many modern treadmills do as well.

5. Be clear on your workout style

This is the key to deciding what equipment is right for you. For example, if you want to bulk up, you need to have a gym set at home. If you are looking for low impact workouts or exercises that work your entire body, a treadmill or a rowing machine may be what you need.

6. Flooring

This is a very important factor when planning a home gym. It is the aspect that protects your property and at the same time makes sure that your equipment lasts longer. Proper flooring also ensures that the noise level from the gym is significantly reduced.

7. Mirrors

If you are one of those people who find motivation in mirrors, you may want to add some on your home gym walls. Just don’t focus on working out those parts of the body that stand out when you look in the mirror. This is a very common mistake.

8. Have a workout plan

Unless you make use of your home gym, it means absolutely nothing. Once you have put everything in place, it’s time to come up with your workout schedule. Remember that the key to working out at home is discipline.
