Any music enthusiast knows it is an absolute necessity to have a pair of earbuds that deliver high-quality music, are comfortable, and have the durability to withstand whatever it is that life throws their way. Most earbuds that come standard from manufacturers just don’t cut it when it comes to delivering a truly great musical experience. Back in the day, consumers had to sacrifice some sound quality in order to benefit from the small size of earbuds. Nowadays, technology has advanced to the point that a high quality pair of earphones has no problem competing with the quality of sound delivered by their larger counterparts.

In fact, the earbuds we’ve rated for you below actually sound better than many of the circumaural and supra-aural headphones we’ve tested within the same price range.

How Do You Determine Which Earbuds Are The Best For Me?

When rating earbuds and headphones, we follow a strict formula, which considers many factors including:

  • Quality of sound:
    • Noise isolation?
    • Noise cancellation?
    • How is the bass compared to the mids and highs in terms of clarity and balance?
  • Price-To-Benefit Ratio:
    • Although it is true that most expensive headphones and earbuds do deliver a higher-quality musical experience, there comes a point when the increased quality of sound does not justify the increased cost; this is considered in our rating.
  • Comfort and Perks:
    • How do your ears feel after longer periods of use?
    • How do you ears feel after being used in situations requiring high amounts of movement?
    • Are there extra volume controls on the unit itself?
    • Is it corded or Bluetooth enabled?
  • Style:
    • Although this factor is a bit subjective, we keep in mind that most of our readers will prefer different things in terms of style, and we stay as objective as possible when rating in this regard.
  • Durability:
    • We actually put each pair of earbuds through a variety of high intensity and high impact situations and see how they hold up.
      • Think twisting, pulling, rubbing, pushing, jumping, falling, shaking, sweating

1. Shure SE846-CL Review

Check Price

Wow. That pretty much sums it up. It is not surprising to us that most people who test out the Shure SE846-CL are upset when they realize they have to give them back. With a price well above what most people are willing to spend on a pair of earbuds, unfortunately these are not as popular as they should be. In fact, the only thing that held us back from giving a perfect score of 10 is the very high price. If you do have the money to spend on an excellent product for your music-listening needs, look no further because as of right now this is the top of the line.

With four drivers in each speaker, the audio that this pair of earphones deliver is quite literally amazing – crystal clear mids and highs, some deep and heavy bass, and the fidelity and precision that would enable you to hear a pin drop in the studio that was used to record your favorite music. If money is not a issue, the Shure SE846-CL earbuds are currently by far the most impressive piece of technology you can buy.

The materials used to produce this item are of high quality and should last you a great many years of everyday use. Rather than the standard use of plastic for aperture assembly, these earbuds utilize a high-quality metal. In many products, the weakest link often leading to early retirement of earbuds happens to be the cable; the manufactures acknowledge this and ensure that the cables are fully replaceable if anything were to happen.

2. Bose QuietControl 30 Review

Check Price

Although not quite as good as the Shure SE846-CL earbuds, the Bose QuietComfort 20’s come pretty darn close, and are nearly a third of the price. Not so say by any means that these earbuds are cheap, but as we mentioned early regarding the price-to-benefit ratio, if you’re looking to invest in some high-end earbuds that won’t empty your back account, the Bose QuietComfort 20 earbuds surely deliver.

Like many Bose products, these earbuds are designed with the user in mind, utilizing a sophisticated noise-cancelling technology. One cool feature is that you get to full control of this aspect; when you want to block out external noise, such as when youre in a noisy gym, on an airplane or subway, or just prefer not to hear what is going on around you, you simply power it on with the tap of a button. If however you prefer to allow some ambient noise to leak through, you just have to turn “aware mode” on.

For those that like to go for a late night walk and prefer to hear what is going on around them, this is quite useful. With its soft inserts, the Bose QuietControl 30’s provide a comfortable and stylish experience, and can very easily be worn for many hours at a time.

Please note that if you choose to purchase, be sure to choose the option for you that best fits your needs. If you plan to use these with Apple products such as an iPhone or iPad you should go this route, as they require different technology for microphone compatibility.

3.MEElectronics M6 Pro Review

Check Price

The MEElectronics M6 Pro earbuds deliver impressive sound at an impressive price. Once you begin delving below the $50 price range, it is not uncommon to also see a considerable drop in sound, comfort, durability, and style.

The MEElectronics M6 ear buds are definitely the exception to this norm, and provide the user with some surprisingly good range of sound; If you enjoy a pair of earbuds that deliver a deep range of bass, while also providing high quality mids and highs, this product may be just for you. Although these cannot compete with earbuds that advertise an “extra strong” thump in the bass while neglecting the mids and highs, these lay comfortably somewhere in the middle. These are ideal for those of you who:

  • Want a quality set of earbuds for a fraction of the price
  • Prefer a combination of deep rich bass, and high quality mids and highs
